Description: Hottonia palustris is a very decorative stem plant for the aquarium. It has light green pinnate leaves and looks similar to a species of Myriophyllum. It needs cooler temperatures to thrive. Under heavy light the aquatic plant will branch heavily especially near its base. It has been a mainstream aquarium plant in Europe for years but for various reasons it has not been produced commercially in the US. It is a fast grower and must be trimmed frequently like most stem plants in the aquarium. It is native to Europe and northern Asia where it grows as a marsh plant. It is relatively strong grower in the emersed stage. Hottonia can also be use as a water garden plant is very decorative growing around he edge of the pond in shallow water. |
