New Aquarium Plants For 2012 |
|
Florida Aquatic Nurseries strives to bring several new true aquatic plants to the market every year and this year is no exception. We are adding one new and exciting stem aquarium plant sold in bunches, Hygrophila pinnatifida. In addition we are adding several new potted aquarium plants Echinodorus osiris 'Golden', Echinodorus osiris 'Marble', Pogostemon erectus. We have three new creations this year from Florida Aquatic Nurseries to add to the aquatic plant trade Echinodorus osiris 'Golden', Echinodorus osiris 'Marble' and Echinodorus 'Pinwheel'. For everyone who has been asking for a better foreground plant selection in the aquarium we have started growing several varieties including Hemianthus callitrichoides (Dwarf Baby Tears), Glossostigma elatinoides (Glossostigma), and Eleocharis parvula (Dwarf Hairgrass) on mats in 2 sizes, 3"x5" and 10"x10". These will create an instant foreground when placed in the aquarium. Lastly, we also have expanded our planted driftwood line to include Lilaeopsis mauritiana.
Echinodorus osiris 'Florida Gold'
Echinodorus osiris 'Marble' Echinodorus osiris 'Marble' is another nice new variegated sword plant for the aquarium created by Florida Aquatic Nurseries. Marble Melon Sword was developed from the regular melon sword (Echinodorus osiris). Bright gold and green colored leaves are the highlight of this aquarium plant. It is best suited for mid to background settings in the aquarium.
Echinodorus 'Paul Kloecker' Echinodorus 'Paul Kloecker' is a new introduction that comes from Germany. Resembling Echinodorus 'Rose' in its robust growth, the coloration is similar to Echinodorus 'Ozelot'. Echinodorus 'Paul Kloecker' is an excellent new sword plant to try for the aquarium.
Echinodorus 'Pinwheel' Echinodorus 'Pinwheel' is a great new sword plant for the aquarium created by Florida Aquatic Nurseries. It gets its name from the curved leaves that it displays in the emersed form similar to a pinwheel in appearance. Narrow leaves and a small stature help this aquarium plant to resemble a Cryptocoryne in growth habit. Echinodorus 'Pinwheel' is an excellent choice for midground settings in a planted aquarium. If you have been looking for a sword plant that won't out grow your aquarium, this is your choice.
Hydrocotyle sibthorpioides A small leafed form of pennywort, Hydrocotyle sibthorpioides is an great addition in foreground or midground settings of an aquarium. High lighting is an important factor in keeping Hydro cot lye sibthorpioides as a small spreading aquarium plant instead of growing to the surface.
Hygrophila pinnatifida Hygrophila pinnatifida is a striking new addition to the stem aquarium plant line. This species of Hygrophila is very unlike any other. Dark green leaves with indented margins help to create a new texture in the planted aquarium. Dark purple undersides also help to add to Hygrophila pinnatifida's beauty. This species of Hygrophila is very slow growing and has the great trait of being able to root on to driftwood and rock allowing for exciting aquascaping abilities in the planted aquarium.
Pogostemon erectus Short needle like leaves and a compact stature give this variety of Pogostemon a conifer like look. Pogostemon erectus is a new addition to our potted aquarium plant line and will fill the niche of a more compact stem plant in the aquarium. Instant Foreground Several varieties of foreground plants including Hemianthus callitrichoides (Dwarf Baby Tears), Glossostigma elatinoides (Glossostigma), and Eleocharis parvula (Dwarf Hairgrass) are now grown on coco fiber mats to be used as foreground starters. Two different sizes are available 3 x 5 and 10 x 10. Don't forget our line of instant aquascaping aquarium plants with choices like Hemianthus callitrichoides on lava rock, Anubias barteri rooted on driftwood, Glossostigma elatinoides on driftwood and many more.
